IVF or in vitro fertilisation is an artificial reproductive technique that helps couples to have a baby who cannot have it otherwise naturally or with simple treatment options. In this procedure, eggs and sperms are fused outside the body and the resulting embryo is placed carefully inside the womb .
Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection /ICSI is an advanced technique wherein the best sperm is selected under high power microscope and injected into the egg to facilitate fertilisation .ICSI is specifically used in cases where the sperm quality is very bad.
In neovita fertility centre ,we are equipped with the cutting edge micromanipulator for ART to handle your gamates with utmost care.
During the initial visits the couple is thoroughly evaluated and a plan is made as to the type and dose of medications to be used.
An ultrasound and a few blood works are also done
A detailed counselling session by our trained counsellors will be done to Understand the whole procedure and to clarify any doubts that may arise.
2. Ovarian stimulation
Once a plan is made the female is given daily injections starting from the second or third day of the menstrual cycle, these are hormobnal injections that helps to grow the follicles in the ovaries where eggs are formed.
This may take an average of 9-12 days
3. Egg retrieval
Once the follicles are ready, eggs are retrieved from the female partner's ovaries under mild sedation or local anaesthesia. This procedure is called an egg pick up .
4. Sperm collection and preparation
:The man provides a semen sample on the same day of egg pick up which is analysed in the laboratory to select the
best quality sperm for injection.
5. Fertilisation
The eggs and sperms are fused in the laboratory by IVF or ICSI
6. Embryo transfer
One or more of the formed embryos are then transferred into the woman's uterus using a small catheter, typically 3-5 days after fertilisation if fresh transfer is planned. In many cases,a frozen embryo transfer is preferred where the embryos are stored in liquid nitrogen,to be used in another cycle.
7. Pregnancy testing
A pregnancy test is performed using urine and blood, 14 days after the embryo transfer procedure to know the result.
